The Toddler (0-3)

Half an hour for the smallest patrons in the room: a first haircut, a second haircut, and the cut a year later when the toddler is willing to sit a little longer. We take our time with this one. We charge for the time, not the bulk of the work.

What’s different

• The chair has a booster and we’ll let your child climb up with help, or sit on a parent’s lap if that’s what it takes.
• We use shears by preference and clippers only at the very end, briefly, at the very back of the neck. Many of our littlest patrons never hear the clippers at all.
• We skip the straight razor entirely — the line at the neck is set with a foil shaver, and only if your child is comfortable with it.
• The shampoo is optional on the toddler chair, and most days we do without it.
• A trip to the candy wall at the end. House rule.

A first-cut visit

A toddler’s first haircut sometimes turns out to be a sit-in-the- chair-and-look-around with no clipping. If that’s how the half-hour goes, we count it as a real visit and you pay the full thirty. Coming back next week the chair is familiar, and the cut almost always happens the second time.

A note on temperament

We are slow. We are quiet. We don’t make sudden moves and we don’t ask the child to be still beyond what’s reasonable. If your child isn’t going to make it through, we’d rather know early so we can set the work down and give it back to you instead of finishing something half-cut.

When to come

Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are the quietest hour at the shop — the best time to bring a toddler. Saturdays are loud and we don’t recommend them for a first cut. By appointment — the booking link is the fastest way to a chair, the telephone the slower one — and the chair will be ready when you arrive.
